What Is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL™) technology is a treatment breakthrough that can correct a variety of benign skin conditions, such as facial skin imperfections, the signs of photo-aging, birthmarks, unwanted hair, unsightly small veins, and other blemishes. It offers a safe, noninvasive solution that can be tailored to your individual condition and skin type, providing superior cosmetic results and outstanding satisfaction, through a new process called photorejuvenation.
How Is Photorejuvenation performed?
A cold anesthetic gel is applied to the area to be treated. Dr Frazier holds the smooth glass surface of the IPL handpiece against the skin to be rejuvenated and each pulse of the handpiece emits a pulse of light. Some describe it like the snapping of a small rubber band. Treatment is generally administered in only one session that provide excellent long-term results, minimal adverse effect and high satisfaction.
What can I expect after treatment? How long will it take for my skin to rejuvenate?
Depending on the number of conditions you are treating, and the severity of the individual problem, only one or two treatments are probably all that will be necessary. After treatment --for usually less than one hour-- you may feel warmth in the area of treatment. Usually this warmth is alieviated with cold towels or ice packs for a very short time. We also recommend for your comfort you do not sit in direct sunlight for the first hour. You can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities. You can wash gently wash the treated area the first night after treatment or apply makeup.
The pulsed light of this treatment has begun to destroy the dark pigmented areas (such as age spots) in the various layers of your skin. These dark spots will begin to come to the surface over the coming days, as a part of your body's natural process of cell regeneration. For some, you may see a multitude of spots in the first few days. Feel free to use cover up or makeup as usual. Very shortly you will begin to see fresh clear skin appearing, the sun damage gone.
NOW YOUR SKIN IS CLEAN.....Be sure to wear at least a 15+ sunblock in these areas to avoid future sun damage. You may wish to discuss with Dr. Frazier or our skin care experts the use of products which help you prevent and treat sun damage, products such as Obagi Hydroquonone (#3 in the NuDerm system) or prescription Tretinoan.
How Do Other Treatments Compare to Photo-rejuvenation?
While there are lasers that treat telangiectasia and broken capillaries, other lasers that treat benign brown pigments and others yet that are used for resurfacing facial skin, no technology provides the long-term improvement of complexion and texture of the IPLTM Skin Treatments using Photorejuvenation program – all without the slightest interruption in your busy lifestyle.
What Conditions Can Photorejuvenaiton Treat?
Imperfections from Sun Damage and Photo – aging
Facial imperfections or abnormalities can detract from your well being and appearance, no matter how healthy and young you feel. IPL technology helps create smoother-looking skin. After treatment, you can see a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation. The same treatment can be used effectively on the neck, chest, and hands.
Benign Vascular Lesions: Broken Veins and Capillaries
The Face has an extensive network of veins and tiny blood vessels called capillaries. Over time, aging , trauma, sun exposure, and certain lifestyle factors cause a number of them to break appearing as red streaks or blotches on the face. IPLTM therapy can eliminate damaged veins and capillaries by removing virtually all traces of these unsightly blemishes.
Redness Caused by Broken Capillaries
Many people suffer from broken capillaries and diffuse erythema, that cause them social embarrassment. For both women and men, IPLTM can successfully treat dilated blood vessels without injuring the surrounding healthy skin.
