Dr. Bailor performs facelift surgery to restore her patients’ youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
As we age, gravity, genetics, and environmental factors affect the quality of your facial tissues. You may begin to notice that the skin of your cheeks, chin, jaw, and neck lacks the youthful elasticity it once had. Folds and sagging skin caused by loose facial ligaments can begin to obscure the attractive contours of your face.
Dr. Bailor repositions and tightens the ligaments and underlying scaffolding of the face via various facelifting techniques to provide her patients with dramatic yet natural-looking results.
Am I a candidate?
Women and men considering facelift surgery should be in good health and have realistic expectations for their results. To see if you should consider facelift surgery, stand in front of the mirror with your index fingers positioned in front of your ears pointing upward and your thumbs beneath your jawline. Gently pull your skin and tissues upward and back toward your ears. If you like what you see, facelift surgery might be right for you.
Facelift surgery can correct:
- Sagging in the lower two-thirds of your face
- Displaced facial fat
- Excess tissue along your jawline
- Vertical banding on your neck
- Excess skin and fat on your neck
- The appearance of a “double chin”
Remember that one size does not fit all. During your consultation at our office, Dr. Bailor will customize your surgical procedure to meet your specific needs. Dr. Bailor understands that accurate preoperative assessment combined with an artistic eye and personal attention is what gives you a head start to a successful surgical outcome.
Patients who have mid and lower facial aging with little to no signs of aging in the neck will likely benefit from a mini facelift. Those with more significant aging in the mid and lower face as well as neck laxity will require the combination of an extended facelift with a neck lift. Quick “lunchtime” facelift procedures often fail to achieve good and long-lasting results. By addressing the underlying structures of the face, Dr. Bailor is able to achieve natural appearing yet meaningful results that last.
Fine incisions are created in the hair-bearing areas of the temples, down to the ear, slightly inside the ear, around the earlobe, and then behind the ear. These incisions are all placed in natural creases and shadowed valleys to mask their appearance. Patients who require a neck lift will have an additional incision under the chin. Dr. Bailor’s attention to detail, gentle tissue handling, and avoidance of tension during incision closure results in scars that heal in an inconspicuous manner (your hairdresser will even have a hard time locating the incision sites).
A quality facelift focuses on correcting the deeper layers to which all facial structures are attached. This layer is called the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS). The skin is first separated from the SMAS layer. An incision is then made in the SMAS itself. Via meticulous undermining, SMAS is then freed from even deeper structures of the face and repositioned to highlight the natural contours of the face. The skin is then redraped gently, and excess skin is removed from around the ears.
Patients who have significant neck laxity will require a neck lift with their facelift to achieve the quality results they desire. A small incision is placed under the chin in a natural skin crease. Excess fat is excised from underneath the platysmal bands to create better neck definition and eliminate a double chin. A corset technique is then used to tighten separated platysma muscles. For patients with a weak chin, a small chin implant may be placed to further enhance the facial anatomy and create a balanced appearance. The skin is then further lifted to connect the mid and lower face. This technique allows smooth skin redraping that conforms to the best anatomy your neck will allow. Excess skin is excised from around the ears for the incisions to remain at previously designed sites. No tension is placed on the incisions sites, and therefore, the incisions heal in a very inconspicuous manner.
Dr. Bailor’s meticulous dissection and gentle approach to facelift and neck lift surgery reduces the amount of bruising and swelling after the procedure and shortens the recovery. Following your procedure, you will be released to rest at home. All dressings will be removed the day after surgery. Minor discomfort can be controlled with a mild pain medication for two to three days, after which time over-the-counter pain medication will be sufficient. Most patients feel comfortable resuming their regular social and work activities after two weeks. Most of the swelling will begin to subside within the first two weeks, and you should be fully recovered within three months.
Dr. Bailor’s facelift is designed to provide patients with natural and long-lasting results. Depending on your bone structure and skin quality, the aesthetic benefits of facelift surgery generally last about 10 years before touch-up procedures may be desired to treat certain areas.
While facelift surgery is good at addressing tissue laxity, it does not improve skin texture and volume. BOTOX® Cosmetic, facial fillers, fat grafting, and skin resurfacing are ideal treatments for enhancing your overall results and helping maintain the quality of your results over the years.
Remember that when it comes to aesthetics, if it does not look natural, it does not look good.
